Moose at the FIRST Robotics
The Entech-sponsored Osceola High School Moose did great at the 2013 Orlando Regional FIRST Robotics Competition making the semi-finals.They also won the Quality Award, given for robot robustness in both concept and fabrication.Given the strict rules of the competition, it’s as close to “real-world engineering” as a student can get.
Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway, founded FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) in 1989 to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders. He used his own passionate interest in science and technology and determination to found DEKA Research and Development Corporation, which focuses on the development of radical new technologies. Understanding the importance of mentors in his own professional development, he wanted FIRST to serve as an organization to help young people discover the excitement and rewards of achievement and create an environment that fostered mentorship for them. This year 2,548 teams participated nationally, which included 50,960 high school students.
